Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance has taken the battle to Kalonzo Musyoka’s backyard, opening an office at Kamuwongo market in Mwingi North, where the Wiper boss hails from.

This is the first UDA office to open in the Mwingi region.

Paul Mutisya, the Kitui Senate aspirant on the UDA ticket, said Kalonzo has failed to establish a strong political leadership for the Ukambani region, even as he terms himself as the de facto regional kingpin.

As a result, he said, the community needs new leadership.

“I urge the Akamba nation to embrace the new wave and join the winning team because UDA will produce the next President of Kenya,” Mutisya said.

He noted that Ukambani region has been outside government for long and it is time it positioned itself in the party he said has huge popularity on the grassroots and has the needs of common mwananchi at heart.

“Development in our area has been minimal simply because we have been in the opposition and the few leaders at the top are selfish and cannot fight for locals to get resources,” he added.

Mitisya urged those who are trashing the bottom-up economic model propagated by DP Ruto to stop the misconception, arguing that it is using the basic economic unit at the household level to create jobs and grow the economy.

As a result, he said, the end product will be economic development using the many small businesses based at the grassroots level.

“The trickle-down economy has been of no aid to us as only the rich continue getting richer and the poor becoming poorer,” he said

UDA Mumoni MCA aspirant Agnes Kambua said the party has a promising future and they will popularise it at the grassroots level.
