It’s confirmed that, Garissa senator Yusuf haji has kicked the bucket early Monday 15th feb 2021, at Aga Khan hospital while receiving treatment.

The legislator fell ill in mid 2020, and he underwent 4 hours surgery at Aga Khan hospital, after he slipped and dislocated his hip at his home in Garissa.

Reports indicates that, he had been flown to Turkey for treatment but recently returned to the country and was admitted at the Aga Khan hospital in Nairobi, where he was announced dead.

The 80 years old lawmaker has left behind 8 children, including the director of public prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji and Abdul Haji who is a business man.

Haji served as the chair of building bridges initiative (BBI) taskforce after being appointed by President uhuru Kenyatta.

The late started serving the public in 1960 in the provincial administration as a district officer, where he rose through the ranks and was appointed as provincial commissioner where he served between 1970 to 1977.

In 1998, Yusuf received his first nomination to serve in national assembly, he was later elected on kenya Africa national union ( KANU) party ticket. He also served in various capacities including as an assistant minister in the office of the president.

In January 2008, Haji was appointed to serve as the minister of defense , where he led the dialogue with the government of Somalia to fight all al-Shabaab.

He replaced George Saitoti as an acting minister of internal security and provincial affairs after his death.

Haji was serving as the chairman of the senate security and foreign relations committee before he met his death.
