A section of Nairobi leaders have emerged winners at the 2021 County Gala Awards 2021.

The winners were arrived at after a report was compiled from a  survey conducted between January 1 and February 30, 2021, and was released last month.

The prizes were given by the County Gala Awards, a business and marketing company today at Kempinski Hotel.

Embakasi West MP George Theuri was awarded best MP in Nairobi county while Embakasi MCA Michael Ogada got the award for the best MCA.

Matopeni MCA Abdi Ibrahim Hassan ‘ Guyo’ was awarded best MCA overall across the 47 counties.

Guyo who is also Majority leader at the Nairobi County Assembly early this year had been ranked as best MCA in Nairobi by Mizani Africa poll.

This is the third edition of the county gala awards. Speaker of the Senate Kenneth Lusaka was the guest of honour.

The County Gala awards CEO Khalid Njirani revealed that next year’s awards will be recognising those who have greatly achieved under the five years of devolution.

Nairobi Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga received the best Gender achievement.

City Hall’s County Executive Member for Lands was also recognised as the best CEC in Nairobi county.

Machakos’s Alfred Mutua was ranked overall best Governor while Caroline Karugu from Nyeri was awarded as the best Deputy Governor.

Makueni’s Mutula Kilonzo Junior was named the best Senator

Best performing MP went to Otiendo Omollo from Rarienda while Sabina Chege emerged the best performing Woman Rep.

Best Nominated MP was Ole Sankok from Narok while best Nominated MCA went to Doris Makere.

Nakuru county emerged top as it was named the best performing county in the country.

Kajiado County Assembly Speaker Johnson Osoi was ranked best speaker countrywide.

Cabinet Secretary for sports Amina Mohammed was named the best CS while Principal Secretary for State Department of Interior and Citizen Services Karanja Kibicho emerged as the best performing PS.

Mercy Mwangangi, the Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Health’s was ranked first in the CAS department due to her emerging influence in the fight against Covid-19.

Njirani rubbished claims that the company is paid by leaders to award them.

“We are a self funded company and we do our research thoroughly before giving the awards. Most people who have been rewarded today didn’t know about us until they received the letter communicating the awards ceremony,” he said.
